S2Media™ prepared EC Medium is a selective liquid medium utilized for the detection and confirmation of coliform bacteria, including Escherichia coli, in water, food, and other microbiological samples. Bile salts suppress competing non-coliform organisms, while lactose fermentation and gas production support detection of target organisms. The medium may be incubated at 37°C for coliform detection or at an elevated temperature of 44.5°C for selective detection of E. coli. EC Broth is referenced in APHA and AOAC microbiological methods and is commonly used in multiple-tube fermentation and Most Probable Number (MPN) procedures. EC Broth is not intended for the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.
