S²Media™ prepared Chocolate Agar is an enriched, nonselective culture medium intended for the isolation and cultivation of fastidious microorganisms, particularly Haemophilus spp. and Neisseria spp. The medium combines a nutrient-rich GC agar base with hemoglobin and VitAmino™ Solution to provide essential nutrients, vitamins, cofactors, and growth factors required by nutritionally demanding organisms. The heated blood components provide readily available hemin (X factor), while the enriched formulation supports organisms requiring additional nutritional supplementation.


S²Media™ Chocolate Agar is formulated to provide performance comparable to Chocolate II™ Agar and is well suited for the primary cultivation and recovery of fastidious microorganisms from clinical specimens. Commercial Chocolate II™ Agar similarly uses GC II Agar Base, hemoglobin, and a defined enrichment supplement for cultivation of Haemophilus and Neisseria spp.
