S2Media™ BCYE Agar w/o L-cysteine
S²Media™ prepared BCYE Agar without L-cysteine is a differential control medium used for the presumptive confirmation of Legionella spp. isolated from water and environmental samples. Because Legionella spp. require L-cysteine for growth, typical colonies are subcultured in parallel to conventional BCYE Agar and BCYE Agar without L-Cysteine. Isolates that grow on BCYE but fail to grow on the cysteine-deficient medium are presumptively identified as Legionella. Based on Edelstein’s formulation and prepared in accordance with ISO 11731:2017, the medium supports confirmation of presumptive colonies recovered from selective media such as BCYE-GPVC, BCYE-PAC, or BCYE-PAV.
