S²Media™ prepared BCYE Agar is a non-selective culture medium intended for the isolation and cultivation of Legionella spp. from clinical and environmental specimens. Buffered Charcoal Yeast Extract (BCYE) provides essential nutrients and growth factors, including L-cysteine and iron, required for Legionella growth, while activated charcoal adsorbs inhibitory compounds that may interfere with recovery. As a non-selective basal medium, BCYE Agar supports recovery and cultivation of Legionella spp. and may be used alongside selective formulations for clinical microbiology, water testing, and environmental surveillance applications.
