Chameleon™ COLOREX™ COL-APSE (RUO)
Chameleon™ COLOREX™ COL-APSE prepared culture media plates by S²Media are manufactured using original CHROMagar™ raw materials. This selective chromogenic culture medium is intended for the isolation and differentiation of colistin-resistant Gram-negative bacteria from human, veterinary, and environmental specimens. The medium supports recovery of organisms with intrinsic or acquired polymyxin resistance, including plasmid-mediated MCR mechanisms, while chromogenic colony characteristics facilitate presumptive differentiation of resistant pathogens. With a reported limit of detection of 10 CFU/mL, COL-APSE provides a sensitive screening tool for surveillance of colistin resistance and emerging antimicrobial resistance mechanisms in complex sample matrices.
👉 Key Performance Features:
Chromogenic Differentiation: Characteristic colony coloration facilitates presumptive differentiation of colistin-resistant E. coli, other coliforms, Pseudomonas, and Acinetobacter spp.
High Sensitivity: Demonstrated 100% sensitivity for the recovery of colistin-resistant Gram-negative organisms.
Selective Performance: Demonstrated 81% specificity, with a 100% negative predictive value (NPV) and 83% positive predictive value (PPV) in published performance evaluation.
Low Limit of Detection: Demonstrated detection limit of 10 CFU/mL, supporting recovery of low-level colistin-resistant populations.
Rapid Detection: Results can be interpreted after 18-24 hours of aerobic incubation at 35-37°C.
Direct Colonization Screening: Supports direct screening of rectal swabs, perineal swabs, and stool specimens for gastrointestinal colonization with colistin-resistant Gram-negative bacteria.
Broad Surveillance Utility: Applicable to human, veterinary, food, animal feed, livestock, and environmental samples for surveillance of colistin resistance, including organisms with acquired resistance mechanisms such as MCR.
