CHROMagar™ VRE (RUO), 5000mL

Quantity

CHROMagar™ VRE (RUO) is a selective and differential chromogenic culture medium containing 6mg/L vancomycin for the qualitative detection and presumptive identification of vanA/vanB-mediated vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium (VRE) from rectal swab and stool specimens. Intended for gastrointestinal VRE colonization screening, the medium supports infection prevention and control programs by enabling rapid detection of VRE following 24 hours of aerobic incubation at 35-37°C. The medium may also serve as an early indicator of multidrug-resistant organisms in diagnostic workflows but is not intended to diagnose VRE infection or guide or monitor antimicrobial therapy. Presumptive VRE isolates require confirmatory identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and epidemiological characterization. Negative results do not exclude the presence of VRE.

👉 Key Performance Features:

  • Rapid, Reliable Detection: Selective chromogenic medium for the direct detection of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium (VRE), supporting timely infection prevention and control.

  • Chromogenic Differentiation: Distinct colony colors differentiate VRE E. faecalis and VRE E. faecium, minimizing false positives and simplifying interpretation compared to conventional bile esculin vancomycin media.

  • High Analytical and Clinical Performance: Published studies report 100% analytical sensitivity and specificity after 24 hours of incubation, with 95.5% clinical sensitivity and 90.4% clinical specificity, outperforming a commonly used reference medium in VRE screening.

  • Rapid Results: Characteristic colonies develop within 24 hours of aerobic incubation at 37°C.
