CHROMagar™ StrepB (RUO), 5000mL

Quantity

CHROMagar™ StrepB (RUO) is a selective chromogenic culture medium for the qualitative detection and presumptive identification of Group B Streptococcus (Streptococcus agalactiae, GBS) colonization in pregnant women. The medium supports recovery of both hemolytic and non-hemolytic GBS strains from urine, vaginal, and vaginorectal swab specimens following direct plating or enrichment. Characteristic colonies are identified after 18-24 hours of aerobic incubation at 35-37°C. Presumptive GBS isolates should undergo confirmatory identification and, where appropriate, antimicrobial susceptibility testing and epidemiological characterization. The medium is intended to aid in GBS screening and is not intended to diagnose infection or guide or monitor antimicrobial therapy.

👉 Key Performance Features:

  • Rapid Detection: Characteristic colonies develop within- aerobic incubation; no CO₂ required.

  • High Sensitivity: Detects Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B Streptococcus; GBS), including non-hemolytic strains, with reported sensitivity approaching 100%.

  • High Specificity: Selective formulation and chromogenic differentiation distinguish GBS from non-target organisms.

  • Easy Interpretation: Intense mauve colony coloration enables rapid, unambiguous recognition of presumptive GBS.

  • Supports Confirmatory Testing: Colonies are suitable for direct latex agglutination and additional downstream identification procedures.
