CHROMagar™ STEC, 5000mL
CHROMagar™ STEC is a selective chromogenic culture medium for the direct detection, differentiation, and presumptive identification of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC), including O157 and many clinically significant non-O157 serotypes. The medium is intended for use with clinical specimens (stool and rectal swabs), as well as food products, animal feed, and environmental samples. Following 18-24 hours of aerobic incubation at 35-37°C, STEC produce characteristic chromogenic colonies to support rapid screening and presumptive identification. Suspect isolates require confirmatory identification and, where appropriate, additional microbiological or epidemiological testing.
👉 Key Performance Features:
Chromogenic Differentiation: Most Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) produce mauve colonies, while non-target organisms appear blue, colorless, or are inhibited.
High Selectivity: Selective formulation enhances recovery of STEC while suppressing competing background flora, supporting high-throughput sample screening.
Optimized Detection: Designed specifically for the selective detection and presumptive identification of STEC from food and environmental samples.
Flexible Formulation: Compatible with optional selective supplements to enhance recovery of target outbreak-associated STEC strains when required.
