Chameleon™ COLOREX™ Y.enterocolitica prepared culture media plates by S²Media are manufactured using original CHROMagar™ raw materials. This selective chromogenic culture medium is intended for qualitative direct detection, differentiation, and presumptive identification of pathogenic biotypes of Yersinia enterocolitica. The medium supports testing of rectal swabs and stool specimens, as well as food, animal feed, and environmental samples. Following 36-48 hours of aerobic incubation at 30°C ± 2°C, characteristic colony coloration facilitates differentiation of pathogenic Y. enterocolitica biotypes from non-pathogenic strains and competing flora. Y.enterocolitica is not intended to diagnose infection or guide antimicrobial therapy. Presumptive isolates should be confirmed by appropriate microbiological identification and, when indicated, epidemiological characterization.

👉 Key Performance Features:

  • High Analytical Performance: Demonstrated 99.4% sensitivity and 100% specificity following 48 hours of aerobic incubation at 32°C.

  • High Clinical Performance: Demonstrated 100% sensitivity and 99% specificity with stool specimens, compared with 100% sensitivity and 90.4% specificity for CIN agar.

  • Differentiation of Pathogenic Biotypes: Pathogenic Y. enterocolitica biotypes produce characteristic mauve colonies, while non-pathogenic biotypes produce metallic blue colonies, facilitating rapid visual differentiation.

  • Improved Specificity vs. CIN Agar: Chromogenic differentiation reduces false-positive interpretation from background organisms such as Citrobacter spp. that may resemble Yersinia on conventional CIN agar.

  • High Selectivity: Effective suppression of competing flora improves plate readability and focuses confirmatory testing on colonies with greater potential clinical significance.

  • Reduced Laboratory Workload: Clear differentiation of pathogenic, non-pathogenic, and competing organisms minimizes unnecessary identification and confirmatory testing.

  • Clinical & Food Safety Utility: Supports detection of pathogenic Y. enterocolitica in clinical specimens as well as food, animal feed, and environmental samples.
