Chameleon™ COLOREX™ Vibrio
Chameleon™ COLOREX™ Vibrio prepared culture media plates by S²Media are manufactured using original CHROMagar™ raw materials. This selective chromogenic culture medium is intended for the detection, differentiation, and presumptive identification of clinically and environmentally significant Vibrio species, including V. cholerae, V. parahaemolyticus, V. vulnificus, and V. alginolyticus. Characteristic colony coloration facilitates rapid differentiation of Vibrio spp. from competing flora, supporting food safety testing, seafood and aquaculture monitoring, water analysis, and environmental surveillance. The medium provides an efficient culture-based tool for monitoring Vibrio contamination and supporting foodborne disease and public health investigations.
👉 Key Performance Features:
Distinct Chromogenic Differentiation: Characteristic, high-contrast colony colors facilitate rapid presumptive differentiation of clinically significant Vibrio species.
Improved Differentiation vs. TCBS: Chromogenic reactions provide clearer species differentiation than conventional sucrose fermentation on TCBS agar, particularly for V. parahaemolyticus and V. vulnificus, which are both sucrose negative.
Reduced Interference from V. alginolyticus: V. alginolyticus produces colorless colonies, minimizing interference with detection of other target Vibrio species.
Excellent Recovery: Provides enhanced recovery of target Vibrio spp. compared with conventional TCBS agar, helping reduce the potential for false-negative culture results.
Simplified Plate Interpretation: Strong chromogenic contrast improves recognition of presumptive colonies and reduces ambiguity associated with pH indicator-based differentiation.
Compatible with Confirmatory Identification: Presumptive colonies can be selected directly from the medium for subsequent biochemical testing or MALDI-TOF identification.
Food & Environmental Utility: Supports detection and differentiation of Vibrio spp. in seafood, aquaculture, water, and environmental testing applications.
