Chameleon™ COLOREX™ StrepB (RUO)
Chameleon™ COLOREX™ StrepB prepared culture media plates by S²Media are manufactured using original CHROMagar™ raw materials. This selective chromogenic culture medium is intended for the qualitative detection and presumptive identification of Group B Streptococcus (GBS; Streptococcus agalactiae) colonization in pregnant women. The medium supports detection of both hemolytic and nonhemolytic GBS strains from urine, vaginal, and vagino-rectal specimens by direct plating or following enrichment. Results can be interpreted after 18-24 hours of aerobic incubation at 35-37°C, supporting efficient prenatal GBS screening and prevention of neonatal transmission. StrepB is not intended to diagnose infection or guide antimicrobial therapy. Presumptive isolates should be confirmed by appropriate organism identification and, when indicated, susceptibility testing or epidemiological characterization.
👉 Key Performance Features:
Easy Interpretation: GBS produces characteristic intense mauve colonies, facilitating rapid presumptive identification.
High Sensitivity: Supports detection of both hemolytic and nonhemolytic GBS strains, with reported sensitivity approaching 100%.
High Specificity: Selective inhibition and differential colony coloration facilitate differentiation of GBS from non-target organisms.
Rapid Results: Results can be interpreted after 18-24 hours of incubation at 35-37°C.
Simplified Workflow: Supports direct plating or plating following enrichment of urine, vaginal, and vagino-rectal specimens.
Aerobic Incubation: Does not require a CO₂-enriched atmosphere, simplifying routine laboratory incubation.
Compatible with Confirmation: Suspect colonies may be used directly for confirmatory testing, including latex agglutination.
