Chameleon™ COLOREX™ StrepACG
Chameleon™ COLOREX™ StrepACG prepared culture media plates by S²Media are manufactured using original CHROMagar™ raw materials. This selective chromogenic medium is intended for the qualitative direct detection, differentiation, and presumptive identification of Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A Streptococcus), Group C and Group G Streptococcus from throat specimens. Following 18-24 hours of incubation at 35-37°C in a CO₂-enriched atmosphere, characteristic colony coloration facilitates rapid presumptive identification. Concomitant culture is required to recover isolates for confirmatory microbiological testing and epidemiological characterization. The absence of growth does not preclude the presence of Group A, C, or G streptococci. Chameleon™ COLOREX™ StrepACG is not intended to diagnose infection or to guide or monitor treatment or therapy. (This product is currently only available in the US as prepared plates.)
👉 Key Performance Features:
Chromogenic Differentiation: Distinct colony coloration enables rapid differentiation of clinically significant streptococci commonly found in throat specimens.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS): Orange to red colonies.
Group C and Group G Streptococci: Pink to mauve colonies.
Other Streptococcus species: Steel-blue colonies.
Rapid Results: Presumptive identification is achieved following 18-24 hours of incubation at 35-37°C in a CO₂-enriched atmosphere, reducing turnaround time compared to conventional media.
Improved Laboratory Efficiency: Simplifies plate interpretation, reduces follow-up workload, and enables rapid selection of suspect colonies for confirmatory identification and susceptibility testing.
