Chameleon™ COLOREX™ StrepA
Chameleon™ COLOREX™ StrepA prepared culture media plates by S²Media are manufactured using original CHROMagar™ raw materials. This selective chromogenic medium is intended for the qualitative direct detection, differentiation, and presumptive identification of Group A Streptococcus (Streptococcus pyogenes) from throat swab specimens. Following incubation at 35-37°C in a CO₂-enriched atmosphere, colonies exhibit distinct chromogenic reactions after 18-24 hours, facilitating the rapid presumptive identification of S. pyogenes while preserving isolates for confirmatory identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and epidemiological characterization.
Chameleon™ COLOREX™ StrepA is intended to aid in the diagnosis of Group A Streptococcus (GAS) pharyngitis. Negative culture results do not exclude the presence of GAS, and this medium is not intended to diagnose infection or guide or monitor antimicrobial therapy. Suspect isolates should be confirmed using appropriate microbiological identification methods.
👉 Key Performance Features:
First Chromogenic Medium for Streptococcus pyogenes Detection: Specifically designed for the direct isolation and presumptive identification of S. pyogenes.
Easy Interpretation: Produces intense orange to red colonies for rapid, unambiguous visual recognition.
High Sensitivity and Specificity: Optimized formulation provides reliable detection of S. pyogenes while minimizing interference from non-target organisms.
Performance: Published analytical and clinical evaluations reported 96.7-100% sensitivity and 97.5-100% specificity for the detection of Streptococcus pyogenes after 20-24 hours of incubation under recommended conditions (Keyak et al. and Gaskin et al., ASM 2019).
