Chameleon™ COLOREX™ O157
Chameleon™ COLOREX™ O157 prepared culture media plates by S²Media are manufactured using original CHROMagar™ raw materials. This selective chromogenic culture medium is intended for the qualitative detection and presumptive identification of Escherichia coli O157, including O157:H7, from food, veterinary, and environmental samples. Characteristic colony coloration facilitates rapid differentiation of E. coli O157 from non-target organisms, supporting food safety testing, outbreak investigation, and surveillance of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC). Presumptive isolates should be confirmed using appropriate biochemical, serological, or molecular methods.
👉 Key Performance Features:
Rapid Chromogenic Detection: E. coli O157 produces characteristic mauve colonies after 24 hours of incubation, while most non-O157 E. coli develop blue colonies.
Improved Differentiation: Distinct chromogenic reactions facilitate differentiation of E. coli O157 from non-target organisms and simplify interpretation compared with conventional Sorbitol MacConkey (SMAC) Agar.
Reduced Presumptive False Positives: Enhanced selectivity and chromogenic differentiation help distinguish E. coli O157 from organisms that may produce similar reactions on sMAC, including Proteus spp. and E. hermannii.
Demonstrated Sensitivity: Reported 89% sensitivity for detection of E. coli O157 in published performance evaluation.
