Chameleon™ COLOREX™ MDR Acinetobacter (RUO)
Chameleon™ COLOREX™ MDR Acinetobacter prepared culture media plates by S²Media are manufactured using original CHROMagar™ raw materials. This selective chromogenic culture medium for the qualitative direct detection and differentiation of Acinetobacter spp., including multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains, from clinical and environmental specimens. Following 18–24 hours of aerobic incubation at 35-37°C, characteristic colony coloration facilitates rapid presumptive identification, supporting colonization screening, infection prevention, and healthcare environmental surveillance. This medium is supplemented for enhanced MDR selectivity, which supports recovery of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter strains. MDR Acinetobacter is not intended to diagnose infection or guide antimicrobial therapy. Presumptive isolates should be confirmed by appropriate organism identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and epidemiological characterization.
👉 Key Performance Features:
Distinct Chromogenic Identification: Acinetobacter spp. produce characteristic red colonies, facilitating rapid presumptive differentiation from other Gram-negative organisms, which are typically blue or inhibited.
Rapid Detection: Results can be interpreted following 18-24 hours of aerobic incubation at 35-37°C.
High Analytical Performance: Demonstrated 100% sensitivity and 100% specificity for detection of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter spp. under analytical evaluation.
High Clinical Performance: Demonstrated 100% sensitivity and 99.9% specificity in clinical evaluation, compared with 46% sensitivity and 90% specificity for the reference Drigalski medium.
Selective Recovery: High selectivity suppresses competing background flora, facilitating recovery and recognition of Acinetobacter from specimens containing mixed microbial populations.
MDR Screening Capability: Selective supplementation enhances recovery of multidrug-resistant (MDR), including carbapenem-resistant, Acinetobacter for surveillance applications.
Clinical & Environmental Surveillance: Supports colonization screening from rectal, nasal, wound, stool, and urine specimens, as well as surface sampling for healthcare environmental hygiene monitoring.
