Chameleon™ COLOREX™ Malassezia prepared culture media plates by S²Media are manufactured using original CHROMagar™ raw materials. This selective chromogenic culture medium is intended for the detection and differentiation of Malassezia spp. from veterinary and animal specimens. Characteristic colony coloration and morphology facilitate presumptive differentiation of commonly encountered Malassezia species that may be difficult to distinguish using conventional culture methods. The medium supports investigation of Malassezia-associated cutaneous conditions, including dermatitis and otitis, and provides improved phenotypic differentiation for veterinary microbiology and animal health applications.

👉 Key Performance Features:

  • High Sensitivity: Demonstrated >97% sensitivity for detection of Malassezia spp. across 377 strains evaluated.

  • Chromogenic Differentiation: Characteristic colony appearance supports presumptive differentiation of commonly encountered Malassezia species that can be difficult to distinguish using conventional culture methods.

  • Broad Species Detection: Designed to support recovery and differentiation of multiple clinically relevant Malassezia species.

  • Established Culture Performance: Performance evaluated following 4-7 days of incubation at 32°C, with >97% sensitivity and >71% specificity.

  • Improved Phenotypic Identification: Provides a culture-based approach to facilitate species differentiation based on characteristic colony features.

  • Veterinary Microbiology Utility: Supports investigation of Malassezia-associated dermatological and otic conditions in animals.
