Chameleon™ COLOREX™ Enterobacteria prepared culture media by S²Media are manufactured using original CHROMagar™ raw materials. This selective chromogenic medium is intended for the detection and enumeration of Enterobacteriaceae in food, animal feed, and environmental samples. Developed as an alternative to conventional VRBG agar, the medium provides characteristic chromogenic differentiation that simplifies colony recognition and enumeration while reducing the laboratory workload associated with traditional methods. Enterobacteria supports routine hygiene monitoring, microbiological quality control, and assessment of process and product quality throughout the food production chain.

👉 Key Performance Features:

  • High Analytical Performance: Demonstrated 100% sensitivity and 100% specificity for the detection of Enterobacteriaceae (validation study evaluating an alternative method to ISO 21528).

  • Chromogenic Differentiation: Enables easy differentiation of E. coli from other Enterobacteriaceae based on characteristic colony coloration.

  • Improved Plate Readability: Intense colony colors against a clear agar background provide greater visual contrast than conventional VRBG agar.

  • Enhanced Detection: High sensitivity and specificity support reliable recovery and enumeration of Enterobacteriaceae in food, animal feed, and environmental samples.

  • Reduced Laboratory Workload: Chromogenic differentiation simplifies colony recognition and enumeration, reducing the additional workup associated with conventional VRBG methods.

  • Simple Confirmation of Interfering Flora: Some Pseudomonas strains may produce pink colonies but can be readily differentiated using an oxidase test.

  • Food & Environmental Utility: Supports routine indicator organism testing, hygiene monitoring, and microbiological quality control throughout food production and processing.
