Chameleon™ COLOREX™ Candida Plus prepared culture media plates by S²Media are manufactured using original CHROMagar™ raw materials. This selective chromogenic culture medium is intended for the qualitative direct detection, differentiation, and presumptive identification of Candida species, including Candida auris, from skin, throat, ear, vaginal, sputum, urine, and stool specimens. Following 24-48 hours of aerobic incubation at 30-37°C, characteristic colony coloration facilitates rapid differentiation of clinically significant Candida species and recognition of mixed yeast populations. Candida Plus is intended as a screening tool used in conjunction with conventional culture methods and is not intended to diagnose infection or guide antimicrobial therapy. Presumptive isolates should be confirmed by appropriate organism identification and, when indicated, susceptibility testing or epidemiological characterization.

👉 Key Performance Features:

  • High Analytical Performance: Demonstrated 100% sensitivity and 100% specificity for the differentiation of C. albicans, C. tropicalis, C. krusei, and C. auris after 48 hours of aerobic incubation at 37°C.

  • High Clinical Performance: Demonstrated 100% sensitivity and 100% specificity across clinical surveillance and environmental samples following 24-48 hours of aerobic incubation at 37°C.

  • Candida auris Detection: Chromogenic differentiation supports rapid presumptive identification of C. auris alongside other clinically significant Candida species.

  • Surveillance Applications: Performance has been evaluated using 364 patient surveillance specimens and 212 environmental samples, supporting use in clinical and environmental screening programs.

  • Rapid Differentiation: Characteristic colony coloration enables presumptive differentiation of major Candida species within 24-48 hours.
