Chameleon™ COLOREX™ Campylobacter
Chameleon™ COLOREX™ Campylobacter prepared culture media plates by S²Media are manufactured using original CHROMagar™ raw materials. This selective chromogenic culture medium is intended for the qualitative direct detection, differentiation, and presumptive identification of thermotolerant Campylobacter spp. from clinical, food, animal feed, and environmental samples. Following 36-48 hours of microaerophilic incubation at 42°C, characteristic colony coloration facilitates recognition of presumptive Campylobacter while selective components suppress competing flora. The medium supports clinical detection from rectal swabs and stool specimens and testing of food, feed, and environmental samples in accordance with ISO 10272-1. Presumptive isolates should be confirmed using appropriate microbiological identification methods and, when indicated, epidemiological characterization.
👉 Key Performance Features:
ISO 10272-1 Application: Suitable as a selective medium for detection of thermotolerant Campylobacter in food, animal feed, and environmental samples in accordance with ISO 10272-1.
High-Contrast Chromogenic Detection: Campylobacter produces characteristic intense red colonies on translucent agar, facilitating visual detection and differentiation compared with charcoal-based media.
High Recovery: Demonstrated 100% analytical and clinical sensitivity, supporting reliable recovery of thermotolerant Campylobacter.
Enhanced Specificity: Demonstrated 90% analytical specificity and 94% clinical specificity; clinical specificity was substantially higher than the 57% reported for the reference Karmali medium.
High Selectivity: Reinforced selective properties suppress competing background flora, providing cleaner plates even with heavily contaminated specimens.
Rapid Interpretation: Results can typically be interpreted following 36-48 hours of microaerophilic incubation at 42°C.
Simplified Detection & Enumeration: Distinct colony coloration and reduced background growth facilitate both recognition and enumeration of presumptive Campylobacter colonies.
