Chameleon™ COLOREX™ B. cereus prepared culture media plates by S²Media are manufactured using original CHROMagar™ raw materials. This highly selective chromogenic culture medium is intended for the detection, differentiation, and enumeration of Bacillus cereus group organisms in food and environmental samples. Characteristic colony coloration facilitates rapid presumptive identification and enumeration of B. cereus group organisms while differentiating competing flora. The medium supports food safety testing, microbiological quality control, and contamination investigation for this spore-forming, toxin-producing group associated with both emetic and diarrheal foodborne illness.

👉 Key Performance Features:

  • Rapid, Easy Interpretation: B. cereus group organisms produce characteristic intense blue colonies on translucent agar after approximately 24 hours at 30°C, providing high visual contrast for simplified enumeration.

  • High Sensitivity & Specificity: Demonstrated 100% sensitivity and 100% specificity for detection of the B. cereus group in published performance evaluation.

  • Enhanced Selectivity & Recovery: Chromogenic technology provides improved selectivity and recovery of B. cereus group organisms in samples containing abundant competing flora compared with conventional mannitol-based media.

  • Simplified Preparation: Unlike MYP (Mossel) Agar, no egg yolk emulsion is required, reducing preparation steps and handling.

  • Improved Differentiation: Chromogenic detection avoids reliance on mannitol non-fermentation, facilitating clearer differentiation of target colonies from background flora.

🧫 Application Areas:

  • Food microbiology for the detection and enumeration of Bacillus cereus group organisms

  • Food safety and foodborne pathogen testing

  • Dairy, meat, cereal, rice, spice, and processed food microbiology

  • Environmental monitoring in food production and processing facilities

  • Raw material, ingredient, and finished-product microbiological testing

  • Process hygiene and sanitation monitoring

  • Foodborne illness investigation and source tracking

  • Microbiological quality control and regulatory compliance testing
