Chameleon™ COLOREX™ B. cepacia
Chameleon™ COLOREX™ B. cepacia prepared culture media plates by S²Media are manufactured using original CHROMagar™ raw materials. This highly selective chromogenic culture medium is intended for the detection and presumptive identification of Burkholderia cepacia complex (BCC) organisms. The medium promotes recovery of BCC while inhibiting competing flora, facilitating detection of slow-growing species that may be obscured on conventional media. Characteristic colony coloration enables presumptive identification of most BCC organisms within 24-36 hours, supporting microbiological testing of cystic fibrosis specimens, healthcare-associated infections, non-sterile products, medical products, and environmental samples. B. cepacia may also be used for qualitative and quantitative detection of BCC in non-sterile, water-based pharmaceutical products in accordance with USP <60>, with incubation at 30-35°C for 36-72 hours. Presumptive isolates should be confirmed by appropriate organism identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and, when indicated, epidemiological characterization.
👉 Key Performance Features:
High-Contrast Chromogenic Detection: BCC organisms produce characteristic intense green-blue colonies, facilitating rapid visual detection and presumptive identification.
High Sensitivity & Specificity: Demonstrated approximately 100% sensitivity and 95% specificity for detection of Burkholderia cepacia complex under published performance evaluation.
Selective Recovery: Formulated to promote recovery of BCC while substantially inhibiting mold and competing background flora, improving detection from complex specimens.
Detection of Clinically Relevant Non-Fermenters: Some non-fermenting Gram-negative organisms may also produce green-blue colonies; several of these organisms may be of clinical significance and warrant further identification.
All-in-One Formulation: Pre-weighed dehydrated medium is added directly to distilled water with no additional selective supplement required, simplifying preparation and reducing handling.
Clinical & Pharmaceutical Utility: Supports BCC detection from respiratory specimens in cystic fibrosis patients and qualitative or quantitative testing of non-sterile, water-based pharmaceutical products in accordance with USP <60>.
